Before joining you have to accept the reality that
paddling can be a dangerous sport. We are each responsible for
ourselves and we are not responsible for your safety. By joining a trip
you are assessing yourself as capable of looking after yourself. This
means that we will take no more responsibility for your safety on a
trip than if we just met you at that moment on the river. You and
every one of us are individuals making individual choices and are
responsible for our individual safety. If you're looking for someone
to take on that responsibility for you, you're better off with a commercial outfitter.
I'm sorry if that seems harsh, but that is unfortunately the world we
live in and we don't wish to be embroiled in it any more than we can
help. Does the preceding mean that we're a bunch of
curmudgeonly soloists? Absolutely not. We like paddling with each
other and sharing food, boats and tent space. It means we've got a
good thing going and we don't want it spoiled either by people who
think this is something it isn't or by lots of forms or lawsuits. So after all that why join you ask? Joining lets you attend club sponsored clinics and organized events at the pool such as drop in nights and kayak polo. You can use club gear and boats at the drop ins at the river or pool. we send out an e-mail to keep you in the loop with events and trips planned and Up North Adventures offers a 5% discount to club members on paddling gear. It will also allow you to meet new people and network with other boaters to plan trips or practice different skills. If you want to join you can download a current membership form at the link below, fill it out and either bring it to the next event or drop it off at Sport Yukon in an envelope with YCKC Membership written on it.
